When I moved to Portland way back in May, I finally got to take yoga classes with Lita. I used to visit Portland yearly and see classes at the Portland Yoga Shala for something called Shadow Yoga. For years and years I wanted to take a class every time I visited but the classes were by immersion, meaning that there were no drop-ins, you had to sign up for class (6am, yup) 5 mornings a week for at least one month. So almost immediately upon moving here I signed up for a weekend intro and then on into the immersions with Lita Batho as my teacher. So glad I did. Lita is an amazing teacher who has practiced with many senior teachers for 14 years, but has spent the last 6 years studying under the guidance of Shandor Remete, the founder of Shadow Yoga, and his partner Emma Balnaves.
Shadow Yoga (watch this video) is an amazingly deep and transformative practice and I have had the very good fortune to be here in a town with a wonderful teacher. Lucky me because Shadow Yoga teachers are few and far between. But lucky you that Lita has decided to start her own blog, Lita Batho Yoga where you can read her musings and very down to earth teachings on yoga and life in general.
Readers here in PDX can find Lita teaching every morning at the North Williams Yoga Shala. If you’re in Seattle and interested in practicing with Lita, keep a look out or contact her through her site because she’s up there regularly to teach workshops. If you’re somewhere else check the Shadow Yoga site for info on teachers or buy the DVD and book.
